David Bowie

I haven't known a world without David Bowie.

I remember seeing him on the music programs when I was little and thinking how sad the lyrics were in Space Oddity.

In the 70s, my mother even copied his Ziggy Stardust hairstyle.

His music video for Ashes to Ashes frightened the living daylights out of me I don't really remember why...maybe it was because Bowie was dressed as a clown and the beach looked space-like, who knows, I was very young. I love it now though.

In the 80s, here in Australia, you could ring a radio station number and listen to songs on the singles chart.

I would ring up and listen to Bowie's Modern Love all the time. Hearing that song now, reminds me of happy days.

My best friend since childhood, Sarah, had a huge crush on David Bowie and desperately wanted to marry him.  She was the first person I thought of when I heard of his passing today.

I thought it was so cool when he filmed the music videos, Let's Dance and China Girl, in my hometown, Sydney.

In Let's Dance, there is a scene where the girl is scrubbing the road. That was right next to where I caught my bus home from school. That was a big deal.

This afternoon my Facebook newsfeed was filled with Bowie pictures, song lyrics, YouTube videos, quotes and artwork. It was lovely to see his life being celebrated.

Vale David Bowie
