Patty Duke 1946-2016

Patty Duke was born Anna Marie Duke, on 14th December, 1946.


In 1955, she won the top prize on a television game show called 'Question'. She won $64,000.

In 1962, when she received an Academy Award for her role in Miracle Worker, her acceptance speech was only two words - 'thank you'. 


She had two children, Sean and Mackenzie. She also adopted a son, Michael.

She was married four times. One of her marriages was to John Astin, known for his role as Gomez Addams in 'The Addams Family'.


Patty Duke had manic depression and co-authored a book called 'A Brilliant Madness: Living With Manic-Depressive Illness'.

In 2004, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.


Patty Duke died yesterday, aged 69 years old. Her cause of death was sepsis from a ruptured intestine.
